MACRA has called upon broadcasters to actively participate in the ongoing review of the 2016 Communications Act. The appeal was made by MACRA Director General, Daud Suleman in Blantyre during a meeting with broadcasters.

Suleman emphasized the importance of inclusive consultation in shaping legislation that reflects the evolving communications landscape: “Support the process by spreading the news and encouraging the public to share their input. Share a copy of the Communications Act so people can read through and give us feedback. Tell us which elements are missing or are not making sense.”
He noted that the communications and broadcasting sectors have undergone significant transformation, raising critical questions about regulatory frameworks and consumer protection.
“Broadcasting has changed dramatically. Today, an ordinary individual can become a media powerhouse and compete with established broadcasters. We must ask ourselves whether it is time to begin regulating live streaming, not to stifle innovation, but to safeguard the industry and protect citizens.” He stressed the need for collective input to ensure the revised law is robust, future-proof, and responsive to national needs for the next 15 to 20 years.
