LIST OF POSTAL/COURIER CATEGORISED OPERATORS

DOMESTIC COMMERCIAL COURIER

Operators under this category are legible to conduct courier operations within all the districts of Malawi.  These operators are mainly commercial entities and do not provide universal service.  Operators currently operating under this category are as listed below:

  • Ampex Courier
  • G4S Courier
  • Speed Courier

Domestic/Freight Forwarding Services Commercial Courier Licence

Operators under this category are mainly transporters – for collection, conveyance and distribution/delivery of courier items between the cities of Blantyre, Zomba, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.  This category of operators is not obliged to operate under the universal Service Obligation and mostly commercial.  The Authority does not have any licensed operators operating under this category at the moment.

Domestic (Inter-City) Commercial Courier

Operators under this category operate within the main cities of Blantyre, Zomba, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.  They are commercial entities and are not obliged to operate under the universal service obligation.  Operators currently operating under this category are as listed below:

  • SOSOSO Courier Services
  • Kwezy Bus Courier
  • Ankolo.com

Domestic (district/one City/Intra city) Commercial Licence

Operators operating under this category are legible to operate in any one of the districts/city of Malawi. This category of operators is not obliged to operate under the universal postal obligation and mostly commercial. The Authority does not have any licensed operators operating under this category at the moment.

INTERNATIONAL COMMERCIAL COURIER

Operators under this category handle exports and imports of courier items in Malawi.  They are mostly commercial and do not provide universal postal services.  Operators currently operating under this category are as listed below:

  • Air Cargo
  • Posts Courier
  • DHL
  • Fed Ex Express
  • Xerox UPS
  • Glens- Aramex
DESIGNATED PUBLIC POSTAL OPERATOR – MALAWI POSTS CORPORATION

The Authority has the powers to designate an operator to be a Public Postal Operator.  In the case of Malawi, the Authority designated Malawi Posts Corporation to be the Public Postal Operator.  The Public Postal Operator has a universal service obligation which other operators do not have.
