MACRA has started receiving entries for the 2026 International Letter Writing Competition,
after the Authority, in collaboration with the Universal Postal Union (UPU), invited young
Malawian learners to participate in the competition.
Under the theme “Write a letter to a friend about why human connection matters in a digital
world,” the 55th International Letter Writing Competition runs from January to March 31st,
2026.
This year’s theme explores the importance of genuine human connection in an increasingly
digital world shaped by technology, from robots to all kinds of digital communication tools.
Aimed at improving literacy through the art of letter writing, the competition is open to
participants aged between 9 and 15 years, with the submission deadline for the international
competition serving as the cut-off date for age eligibility.
“The competition will help to develop the learners’ skills in composition and the ability to
express their thoughts clearly.
Currently, we have embarked on an awareness campaign to sensitize and encourage learners to
participate in the competition,” said MACRA’s Head of International Relations and Corporate
Communication, Limbani Nsapato.
It is expected that the top three entrants will be awarded at an event, and the best composition
will be submitted to UPU by 5th May 2026 to compete on the international level.
