The third edition of the Women and Girls in Cyber Conference 2025 opened at BICC in Lilongwe, under the theme “She Secures: Building a Stronger and Resilient Cyber Ecosystem in Malawi.”
The national conference brought together women, girls, digital experts, policymakers and students from across the country to discuss ways of creating a safer, more inclusive cyberspace especially for women and girls.
Opening the conference, Malawi’s First Lady, Her Excellency Madam Monica Chakwera, highlighted the increasing use of digital technologies and the urgent need to ensure that women and girls are protected as they engage online. She encouraged participants to be confident, visible and active in digital spaces, knowing they are supported.
Minister of Information and Digitalisation, Honourable Moses Kunkuyu Kalongashawa, highlighted government’s commitment to developing laws and policies that protect women online. He acknowledged the risks that many women face in digital environments and outlined efforts being made to close the safety and access gap.
MACRA Board Chairperson Bridget Chibwana reflected on the important role women are already playing in cybersecurity and technology. She called for continued support and the creation of more opportunities through platforms such as this conference.
