Minister of Information and Digitalization Hon. Moses Kunkuyu Kalongashawa has today handed over a Data Centre to Ntcheu District Council.
MACRA in partnership with the country’s postal and courier operators pulled together resources for the rehabilitation of the Data Centre as part of the 2022 World Post day Commemoration. This event was supposed to take place last year but had to be shifted to give enough time for the rehabilitation works of the computer lab to be finished
“This really demonstrates how close you the postal and courier operators are with Malawian communities,” said Hon. Kunkuyu Kalongashawa who was the guest of honour at the function.
He further said the government believes that a connected citizen is an empowered individual saying, “it is therefore critical that we all work together towards reducing the communication gap that is there among our people, especially those living in rural areas.”
The minister also appealed to MACRA to ensure that appropriate regulatory incentives are provided to operators that are willing to serve our rural communities
To operators, the mister pleaded with them not to get complacent with the gains that they have been making over the years but rather to keep on being innovative through the introduction of new services to consumers across Malawi.

On his part, District Commissioner for Ntcheu Mr. George Ngaiyaye said the facility is there as a data bank and training room for the sector heads, and that it will improve record keeping and knowledge in Information Communication and Technology (ICT).

Apart from the rehabilitation works, the following items have been donated to the centre; 11 desktop computers, a binder, 20 cubicles and 11 chairs among others.
WPD is celebrated every year on October 9 and the 2022 theme is: “Post for Planet”.
