This year MACRA took the girls in ICT campaign to Mlanda Secondary Girls School in Ntcheu where the Authority renovated a computer lab and donated 10 desk top computers, a printer and a connected the school to the internet.
The campaign is part of the commemoration of girls in ICT which was celebrated this year under the theme “connected girls creating greater futures”.
Among the activities was the commissioning of the computer lab by the minister of information Hon. Gospel Kazako, a career talk by women in the ICT sector including MACRA’s own Aisha Dissi a computer information expert and a computer training course for both students and teachers.
Speaking at the function the minister of information Hon Gospel Kazako called on the key players in the sector to join in the campaign of promoting girls in ICT in their targeted initiatives, Corporate Social Responsibility and messaging.
“The girl child is as capable to succeed in any field they put their mind to, despite the lack of opportunity and access to the various critical facilities, the ICT industry has seen a rise in the number of women perusing ICT related fields and specifications. We want to level the playing field for girls by such targeted responses aimed at increasing the access and usage of ICTs in the education sector” he said.
