On 12th January 2021, the State President His Excellency Rev. Dr. Lazarus Chakwera declared Malawi a state of national disaster due to the escalation of cases of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In response to the state of natural disaster and increased number of cases the Authority donated medical equipment to the ministry of health through Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital worth 35 million Kwacha.
The donated items which include 100 oxygen cylinders and oxygen that will be used to fill 100 empty oxygen cylinders worth MK23 Million and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for front line workers worth MK12 million, will be distributed to various medical facilities across the country.
Making the donation the Board chair for the Authority Dr. Stanley Khaila stated that the donation was intended to assist the government and front line workers to effectively carry out their duties during the pandemic.
The board chair also stressed the importance of being responsible digital citizens.
“let me take this opportunity to plead with the general public to avoid posting false or alarming information on the social media. False information can mislead people and has the potential to lead to increased losses of life. On the other hand alarming information may cause stress which might weaken the immune system and lead to more deaths” Khaila said.
