MACRA and the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) signed a memorandum of understating with an aim of developing national standards for the communications sector.
The MoU will harmonize the duties of the two institutions to ensure the effective discharge of their respective mandates while improving the country’s communication sector. Both MACRA and MBS have been tasked to develop national standards by their respective guiding legislations. The MoU was developed in order to avoid duplication of efforts by the two institutions informing a working relationship to effectively guide the discharge of duties confined upon them.
Speaking at the signing ceremony MACRA’s acting director general Henry Silika stated that the MoU will help MACRA to develop and establish technical standards relating to all communications equipment and perform type approval of all Communications equipment to be used in Malawi based on these standards.
