The MACRA Board chairperson, Chancy Gondwe, has described the MACRA’s Director of Telecommunications late Edward Kauka as someone who helped to shape and improve the Telecommunications industry in the country.
Gondwe was speaking during the funeral service of Kauka at his residence in Area 47. The Minister of Information and Communications Technology Dr Shadric Namalomba, was among the mourners.
He said, among others, the late Kauka championed the FM refarming exercise, which aimed at providing a long-lasting solution to challenges the broadcasting industry in Malawi had been experiencing due to frequency hoarding.
The Board Chairperson also praised the late Kauka for facilitating the implementation of Revenue Assurance System (RAS), an advanced monitoring platform that allows MACRA to independently track and verify the revenue generated by licensed telecommunications operators.
Edward Kauka has since been buried at Area 18 cemetery. He died on Sunday, 8th February, in a road accident. He will be remembered as someone who believed in teamwork and provided his professional guidance to the board.
